Thanksgiving Hangover

Now that Thanksgiving is over, I sit here in the kitchen drinking a cup a coffee, and I'm not going to lie, I feel like garbage. I took my own advice from yesterdays post and really went to town on two giant plates of Thanksgiving food. Pretty good, I think.  I ate fast and loose.

However, it was too much.  When we were done eating, Jesse and I washed the dishes. Leaning over the sink to wash the dishes hurt.  It hurt in our chests.  First it was Jesse's problem, but once I took over the dish washing, I also noticed the weird pain in my lower chest, as well.  Totally gross.

I did manage a piece of pie, which I can't hardly believe.

We went "Black Friday" shopping last night at like, 11:30.  Wasn't that crazy, deals weren't all that mind blowing (although they were good).  We got stuff for the kids and ourselves.  It was weird being in an Old Navy at midnight, because it didn't feel like midnight.  In fact, being out at the Nashville West Shopping thinger-ma-bob that late at night would have felt real weird had there not been the normal amount of shoppers and traffic for that area at, say, six p.m. on a regular day.  The only indication to me that it was super late was my uncontrollable yawns.

But what I'm trying to say here is that I feel hung over this morning.  I have a thanksgiving hangover.  I drank some water, drank some coffee and ate some pie.  I still feel like a small truck hit me last night.  I'm slowly feeling better, but I don't every remember feeling this way after thanksgiving before.

Well anyway, that's all, I guess.  Now that thanksgiving is over, it's not The Most Wonderful Time Of the Year.™ ™

Merry Christmas™ ™!!!

Sriracha Sauce on Everything

Remember back in the day when I used to post blogs on weekdays?  Wow that seems like forever ago.  Well I never wanted to be a weekend blogger, but that's sort of what it became.  Not today, junior.  I'm here to talk about food some more.

Sriracha sauce.  I know that many, many people are well aware of this sauce.  I know that a lot of people love it.  I know that a lot of people used to love it and are sick of it now.  I know that I'm late to the party, probably.  Heck, they flavored Lay's potato chips with it by popular vote.  But yesterday I bought my own bottle of it for the house.  I had it once before, a few months ago at Lipscomb's Bison Cafe while eating some kid of stir-fried noodles.  It was awesome, but very spicy.  Yesterday while shopping, I thought it would be a good idea to buy a bottle to keep here.

So last night we made Pigs in a Blanket (mine with veggie dogs, of course).  I usually use ketchup to dip it in, and I did that.  But I wanted to try out Sriracha sauce on there.  It was pretty great.  Not like, life changing, but pretty damn tasty.  And hot.  But then I put some sauce on some Cool Ranch Doritos and oh man that was real good.  Something about the flavors mixing together was just too good.  Then I realized that the delicious Sriracha sauce had caused me to eat far too much food and I was in pain.  Too much of a good thing,

So there you go, I'm one of those people that puts Sriracha sauce on everything.  Makes food taste good!  I can't wait to find out how it tastes on more foods.  Follow along on Twitter while I try out different foods with Sriracha sauce on it.

#PBtoast2010

I'm 95% sure that I have spent some time talking about #PBtoast2010 on this blog before, but as I tried to look back and find when I did that and what I talked about, I can't find the post. I'm don't think I went into a great amount of detail if I did, but if I did, I'm sorry for repeating myself.

My friends and I have been doing this #PBtoast2010 campagin for a while now, almost exclusively on the Twitter, with mostly positive results. The results are positive because if you eat peanut butter on piece of toast, your day will be infinitely better because of it. Today, I have taken #PBtoast2010 to a new level of confidence and power.

You see, as Big Dave had pointed out during his Popularity Issue promotion, America loves them some Jif. I grew up on Skippy, but I'm not allowed to purchase it, because my lovely wife is a big Jif fan, herself. Well as I had commented in the comments section of that post by Big Dave, I really like peanut butter that comes premixed with honey. Jif makes one that has honey in it, and it's very good, indeed. But if you want to take your peanut butter experience through the fucking roof, may I suggest Peter Pan honey roast creamy peanut butter.

**I really wanted to take this time to insert a picture of the jar, but I can't figure it out/don't care enough/couldn't find the right picture. Just imagine a picture of peanut butter right here. Thank you***

I've never tasted a better peanut butter, and I'm not fucking around. I'm currently eating it out of the jar with a knife as I type. It's so goddamn tasty, I could scream. I just want everyone to try this shit. It's so good! It's way better than the Jif kind, so if you were considering buying some of this, and they only have the Jif version, don't fucking bother. Don't waste your time. Just buy whatever you buy normally, and wait until the time you are shopping and they actually have the Peter Pan Honey Roast peanut butter available. Buy it, and then kiss your old brand goodbye, because you just had a religious experience in your mouth. You just had an experience.

Please listen to me on this. If nothing else, just listen to me on this subject. I promise I won't lead you astray!

Back-to-Back Consumption Blogs

It's kind of depressing to hear/read that everything I eat or have eaten throughout my life has been utter shit. While researching the previous blog, I came across this quote from a blog in the Los Angeles Times:

"...we have lots of real-life silliness of that kind on our food packages today. I especially like the listed example of Gerber "Graduates," juice treats for preschoolers, in a package that is covered with pictures of whole fruits and that proclaims it's made with "real fruit juice concentrate and natural fruit flavors" and is "all natural." Each serving contains 17 grams of added sugar. Hardly any of the pictured fruits are in it. The main ingredients are corn syrup and sugar."

There are examples like this all over. And you can't really blame the companies, because there is no singular company you can point at and place blame. It's everyone, all the time. Food companies, and namely, their marketing department, suck. All of them. I feel like I can't trust a single one. I have been eating a lot of Amy's Kitchen products, which all claim to be organic and produced with care and a real effort to be done in the correct way. But with the scale of their distribution, I find it hard to believe that they can really be the "good guys" of the mass produced food industry. No one is the good guy, unless you own a farm down the road, which no one does anymore. Like I said before, it's depressing to think about, that all food is shit. (now that I think about that is very true, all food will at least eventually become shit, in the very literal sense.) But it's true and there is nothing anyone can do about it unless you grow your own, and not everyone has the resources to do that.

Basically, we became lazy in our food selections. We want convenience over quality food. And I have grown up in this convenient world, and I live in it. Old habits die hard, especially ones that are VERY much out of your hands.

So that's why they list caffeine content on the side of cans, because we're all fucked.
